> next article > previous articleDavid Megginson, until recently Chairman of The idm Group and now Honorary Life President, has recently co-authored three books, which spell out some of the processses that the company uses in its mentoring and coaching processes. In November 2008, his book, Learning from Burnout, was published by Butterworth-Heinemann. He co-wrote it with Tim Casserley and it tells the stories of 100 high flyers who were at risk of, or had, or were in the throes of burnout.
This sometimes makes harrowing reading, but Tim and David have developed a process for coaching through burnout, which holds the individual and helps them to refocus on the development of their identity.
The second book was published in December 2008 was written with two colleagues in the Coaching and Mentoring Research Unit at Sheffield Business School, and is published by Sage, the American Academic publisher, under the title Coaching and Mentoring: Theory and Practice. It provides a reasoned analysis of contemporary issues in coaching and mentoring, and has been acclaimed for its challenging views on thes matters.
Examples would include the chapter on goal setting and the chapter on creating a coaching culture which set out to challenge received wisdom. The third book,co-authored with David Clutterbuck, long-term writing partner with David Megginson, is the second volume of their successful Techniques for Coaching and Mentoring, and is all completely new material on this popular topic. It will be published, again by Butterworth-Heinemann, in spring 2009. For information about The idm Group's offerings in these areas contact Alex Ievins Head of Marketing on 01302 719345.
