> next article > previous articleOn Wednesday 4th February, Dean Fathers, Chairman of The idm Group, chaired the successful “Understanding the Honours System” conference at the Belfry Hotel, Nottingham. The aim of the conference was to raise the profile of The Honours System across the East Midlands and to discuss promoting the valuable services provided to the region by extraordinary members of the community.
The Honours System has been in existence for centuries as a means by which outstanding merit and service is recognised across the UK. It is only since 1993, however, that members of the public have been able to make nominations themselves.
The conference, which was opened by Sir Andrew Buchanan Bt, Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, engendered productive discussion and lead to the development of a greater understanding of The UK Honours System.
Sir Andrew Buchanan comments, “I am very pleased that everyone attending showed such interest in the Honours System and I believe came away with an understanding of the process.” The event was closed by Admiral Sir John Brigstocke, Chairman of NHS East Midlands who commented, “This was a very useful event for the NHS in the East Midlands and will help to ensure that those who make the most outstanding contributions to health and healthcare in the region receive the recognition they deserve”.
