David Megginson
Key Experience
David is a coach, researcher, writer, consultant and teacher in a wide range of contexts. His coaching work has been with Directors and executives in a wide range of organizations from local charities concerned with the homeless through to global companies and major public service bodies in the UK and elsewhere.
As a researcher he has published studies of coaching and mentoring, continuous professional development, organizational learning, developer development and many other issues. This work has been funded by private companies and public bodies.
He has written more than ten books and numerous journal articles on coaching and mentoring, HR development, continuous professional development, organizational learning and self-development.
Consultancy clients include major global companies and companies based in Europe, including the UK. He has also carried out development work for the European Foundation for Management Development, the Institute of Directors and numerous other bodies.
He was founder and has chaired the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. He has been on the Membership and Education Committee and various working groups of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He has chaired over 30 international and national conferences, and is highly regarded as a speaker at company, professional and academic conferences.
Key Achievements
- He was appointed Professor of Human Resource Development at Sheffield Hallam University. He has acted as a mentor or coach to a large number of people who, with courage and insight, have instituted major change in their own life and the life of their organisations. Most of the credit for this belongs to them but David has accompanied them on their journey.
- He founded (with David Clutterbuck) and developed (with many others, of course) the EMCC to be a major force in the profession of coaching and the social movement of mentoring.
- He has chaired The idm Group for over a decade of its development.
- He has brought to the attention of Directors, managers, professionals and academics key issues in the understanding of their fields, which he has supported them in making sense of and applying.
- His reputation as an author means that his books are continually in print and have widespread circulation not only in the UK but also throughout the world.
